LIGHTS AT NIGHT
By Evelyn Scott
In the city,
Storms of light
Surge against the clouds,
Pushing up the darkness.
In the country,
Is the faint pressure of oil lamps,
That sputter,
Smothered with earth —
Extinguished in silence.
