Wolf and Rabbit

In the forest of my mind,

Wolf prowls, teeth sharp, eyes blind.

He huffs, he growls, he stakes his claim,

But Rabbit knows: he is not the same.

Rabbit hops through shadowed trees,

Dodging whispers, dodging pleas.

He’s small, but fleet, he knows his ground,

No snarls, no threats can pin him down.

Wolf may howl, may bite, may scare,

But Rabbit breathes the open air.

He eats his greens, he guards his den,

And waits for quiet once again.

Wolf’s hunger is for control,

Rabbit’s freedom is the goal.

Wolf will tire, will fade, will fall,

Rabbit survives through it all.
